It gives us immense pleasure to launch this first issue of The International Journal of Nutrition, Pharmacology, Neurological Diseases. As the name indicates, it is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal that covers all fields related to nutrition, pharmacology and neurological diseases. The journal will be published on a monthly basis and will include articles that are based on original research, review articles, commentaries, case reports, brief communications and correspondence in all three areas.
The international advisory committee of the journal is comprised of internationally renowned scholars in all the three fields that are covered by the journal. This will give the journal an edge in maintaining a high standard of published work. We invite all the researchers to take advantage of this multidisciplinary high-profile journal to disseminate their work to a wider readership. As it is an open-access journal, we expect a much broader readership and a more efficient sharing of information in the scientific disciplines covered in the journal. In addition, the journal is indexed in multiple databases, including PubMedCentral, Portico, CLOCKSS, Bioline International and MedInd; thus, ensuring the long-term archiving and accessibility of the published content.
Why is there a need to launch yet another journal in nutrition, pharmacology and neurological diseases, as there are hundreds of journals already being published in each of these areas? The answer is two-fold: (1) most of the researchers keep themselves up to date in their respective areas of research by following the work of their peers from the journals published in their own areas of interest. Many of the researchers find it hard to keep abreast of important developments outside their specialties. By launching this journal, we are providing an opportunity to the researchers in at least these three areas of research so that they can keep in touch with what is going on around them in closely related disciplines. (2) In the current age of research, at the molecular level, various scientific disciplines in life sciences can no longer be viewed in isolation. Nutrition, pharmacology and neurological diseases are highly interdependent. It has become increasingly clear that both nutrition and pharmacology are the two disciplines in life sciences that are coming to the forefront not only in understanding of but also the prevention and development of therapeutic approaches toward neurological diseases.
Apart from researchers, the broader community of health care professionals and the general public are becoming increasingly interested in nutrition and neurological diseases, as these affect their lives directly. By launching this journal, we will be able to fulfill their needs by publishing high-quality review articles and extend our reach and impact to a much broader audience. Furthermore, the needs for the healthcare professional are also aimed to be fulfilled, as the articles published will range from basic research findings to clinical applications, to community applications. The interactions of foods/nutrients and drugs and their impact on health status are some of the areas that will be highlighted in articles in this journal. Finally, the inevitable expansion of knowledge in areas as broad as nutrition, pharmacology and neurological diseases also warrants the need for good reviews for students in these fields to keep up with new advances. Efforts will be made to better understand how the new discoveries in the three disciplines are connected and how our current state of knowledge shapes practices and policies.
The inaugural issue of The International Journal of Nutrition, Pharmacology, Neurological Diseases is a trend setter, and we hope to maintain this trend-setting quality in the issues to come.
