Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are estimated to be the leading cause of mortality and loss of disability-adjusted life years. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that roughly 30% of global deaths result from CVD. CVD is more abundant in India and China than in all the economically developed countries in the world put together. Heart problems arise mainly due to improper diet and lifestyle. Ayurveda also recommends a healthy lifestyle, which will prevent heart disease to a greater extent. The aim of the International Congress on Nutrition in Cardiovascular Diseases (Healthy Heart '10) is to invite all the leading scientists to meet together and intensively discuss the most recent advances in the role of nutrition in cardiovascular diseases.

This conference provided a forum for discussing the epidemiology, etiology, biochemical, molecular, and clinical aspects of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, the conference also highlighted the role of nutrition in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. It was a useful framework to share experiences and to seek and receive support in resolving any problems, between nationally and internationally reputed scientists and young budding scientists. In this conference 17 invited lectures from distinguished scientists and 21 oral presentations by budding scientists were presented.

Key words: Healthy Heart '10, International Congress, Nutrition, Cardiovascular Diseases
